depressio Net is a Melbourne-based not-for-profit organisation which exists to provide a ‘safe place’ via the internet, where people can access information and communicate their experiences with depression. depressioNet is committed 'around the clock' to improving the mental health and wellbeing of people impacted by depression through the provision of a unique internet based service, offering hope and understanding, information and support.

Key Responsibilities

The Volunteer Recruitment and Training Officer is accountable for the recruitment and induction of all professionals volunteers, as well as recruitment, induction, training, development and supervision of all other volunteers within the organisation. This position is also responsible for the rostering of volunteers and ensuring that Online Care shifts are always covered. Moreover, the ideal candidate would be involved in the development of specific policies, processes and manuals to engage volunteers. The Volunteer Recruitment and Training Officer will also be actively promoting depressioNet amongst universities, TAFEs and other external partners.


Qualifications

A Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is essential, and a tertiary qualification in human service, psychology or a related discipline is highly desirable.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have had experience working either as a volunteer or managed a group of volunteers in health or not-for-profit sectors. They will have an existing affinity with depression through work or other experience. Experience with operations management will be important.

1. Competency in working with Volunteer

· Experience working with volunteers or managing volunteers.
· Possesses the skill to manage volunteer roster and allocate shifts appropriately.
· Experienced in identifying and making use of volunteers’ strengths and interests.
· The ability to make recommendations on strategies and policies for recruitment and managing volunteers.
· Willingness to maintain effective relationship with volunteers in a manner which promotes the team spirit of depressioNet
· Ability to produce a range of accurate and timely reports relating to volunteer management as requested.
· An understanding of the use of an online service delivery and opportunities to enhance the growth of the service.

2. Competency in Leadership

· A mature approach to working in a dynamic environment with the ability to proactively lead and engender positive attributes and development within all volunteers; includes ensuring the caring, professional and team ‘personality’ of depressioNet.
· Demonstrated staff management skills including training, coaching, mentoring and supporting of all volunteers in conducting all aspects of the depressioNet service delivery model.

3. Competency in delivering service outcomes (Personal Qualities)

· Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work logically and calmly under pressure, prioritising conflicting workloads, supporting organisational priorities and a willingness to seek assistance and input as appropriate.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills with particular focus on the ability to build strong, mutually supportive relationships and produce formal documentation of a high quality.
· High level of interpersonal skills with a genuine desire and ability to work both autonomously on projects and cooperatively as part of a Team to achieve set objectives. Ability to aid negotiation, conflict resolution and advocacy.
· An ability to negotiate and liaise with internal staff, or external service providers regarding issues such as functionality, ease of use of the website, and to address all concerns and feedback in a constructive and proactive manner.
· Genuinely motivated, compassionate, empathetic, committed, enthusiastic and solution-focused attitude.
· A strong team player with a commitment to depressioNet’s mission and passion for improving service delivery to people impacted by depression.
· An autonomous and positive person who is motivated and eager to join the team.
